Retouch       Scratch Remover

The scratch remover tool is included, here. And if eraser and color replacer didn't seem slightly more the painting tools, they'd be here, too. The scratch remover is an older version, now in a sense replaced, or augmented, by the various Noise filters and the auto scratch remover under Effects, Enhance Photo, which might give more precise control. For this tool, though, you simply draw a narrow rectangle over the scratched area, release the mouse button, and hopefully - no more scratch. It tends to work best over pretty solid backgrounds, not necessarily on a complex photo or background.

There are two sizes. If you type in 10 or less in the the Tool Options menu, one sort of removal is done. If it's more, another sort, which is shown with double-lined sides, which may possibly be a more aggressive filter, and less likely to leave scratches remaining.

While holding down the mouse button, you can change the narrow rectangle around the scratched area:

  • page up: widens the rectangle, making it less narrow
  • page down: thins the rectangle over the area
  • up arrow: moves the start point up
  • down arrow: start point down
  • left/right arrows: moves start left and right
  • end point: is where you've dragged it with the mouse

Retouch:

There are a lot of options for the retouch. It's really a number of tools in one.
