Updates

27 MAR 2007

As some may have noticed, the number of photos is almost to 450. Some that were very early efforts have been removed. Many more have been added to various categories. And many others have been 'tweaked' and reworked to remove excess noise, flaws, poor contrast, etc.

18 OCT 2006

Added a new catalog - Photos, Rodeo, Blur. These are typically frames from a short video at 640 across, shot with a 1.5MP Olympus e-100rs. So they are 'found' shots. Sometimes catching someone else's flash can produce a dramatic effect, and so on. And at 640, there's just enough to work with, particularly given that the photos are mostly blurred, anyway.

16 OCT 2006

Added a new catalog - Photos, Animals, Marine. Other photos have been added over the months, of course, mostly under - Photos, Animals - and its subdirectories. Many of the earlier images first posted here have also been reworked to clean them up. More soon.

19 JUN 2006

Added some more Photos, Animals, Prairie Dogs. Added in some other categories, as well. It's now up to over 400 carefully selected photos.

17 MAY 2006

Rearranged Photos, Animals as there were too many photos for one menu. Birds was moved under animals. Some new Eagle and Falcon shots were added. Some additional prairie dog pup photos were moved to a separate Photos, Animals, Prairie Dogs menu.

23 MAR 2006

Added a Food gallery to PHOTOS, with some nice grape/strawberry compositions.

1 MAR 2006

No specific updates to report. A few new images have been included. And to be clear, that javascript image zoom utility still uses the arrow keys, as its author originally designed. The other keys were just provided for convenience so that you didn't have to reach across your body with the 'AT-keyboard' if you have one hand on the mouse. But the zoom was found not to work with wide/panorama images in Netscape or Opera, not because of the image, but because of the DIV containing it. And so you won't find the zoom feature on such (there's only one wide image in the catalog, at present, in the Beach, Mavericks gallery).

I appreciate the 'card n letters'. You can see that since the site was essentially reactivated that once a page goes up, changes and edits might seem frequent, and are made in order to correct errors or help remove any confusion. Again, for anyone confused by the email address, you simply remove the DOTT from the address, and remove any spaces, as well. It's just a weak effort to throw off list collectors and spammers. So again, thanks to everyone.

10 FEB 2006

Added keys - G, J, and K - so that Opera could use the zoom utility from http://valid.tjp.hu/zoom/. A, S, and D are apparently function keys. So for Opera, you would use - F, G, skip the H, and then J, K.

9 FEB 2006

Continuing to add/rework some things from Mavericks, two days ago.

Added a sort of gimicky zoom feature to the Photos section. It should work in Opera and Mozilla, and so then conceivably in Safari. It's a free public utility from http://valid.tjp.hu/zoom/, which loads the image into a floater and then either scales or uses the style.zoom to match where it should be over the original image on the page. Seems to work just fine.

It's intended for certain of the photos, not all, that seem to have some details hidden away in the distance, or which are small and might be more clearly seen, or just something about it at least suggested, that would not be the case if a zoom feature were not so readily available. For many other photos, here - and I do mean many - this will only reveal how muddy or noisy, etc., they really are. But for a few of the tighter and cleaner images, it might prove to be of some benefit.

Move over the image with the cursor, and a zoom box should appear. Try the keyboard keys - A, S, D, and F. Their functions will become immediately apparent.

8 FEB 2006

Added small photo section on The Mavericks surf tournament, held yesterday at Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay. Didn't have the equipment, and didn't beat the heavy traffic at any rate, to get any wave photos. So more just a brief record of the people who showed up on shore, along with a report on the event, and a number of links of interest. Click on Photos, Beach - and find it listed at the bottom.

27 JAN 2006

New tutorial on aspects of programming in Visual BASIC. A general note on 'classic VB'. But also included is a detailed look at the use of FTP to programatically upload files to a web server. Included, as well, are detailed considerations of two of the most useful of the old ActiveX controls, the treeview and the web browser control.

22 JAN 2006

Continuing to rework photos, and proof new content.

Mozilla and Opera and similar have the ability to switch off javascript. This apparently is used in certain controlled environments. So modifications were made to the catalogs so that they would operate, regardless, and also provide a unique URL if javascript indeed were running. In this way, a RELOAD operation would not suddenly depart to a previous page, in non-MSIE browsers; admittedly a modest change since if one will notice, a browser like Firefox/Mozilla provides the option to deal with frames, separately (as in, RELOAD only the particular frame). And one can now move forward and backward in the browser's history, even though frames are being used.

19 JAN 2006

Currently reviewing older photos, making repairs. Removed the unnecessary attributions in the photo catalogs (these are found on the photo's page, instead).

Am trying to track down photo information. Some of these are old, and slide info was manually noted for an older SLR kit. But other newer photos, within the last few years, did not record settings out of a digicam, while others did. You can find some photos already now contain notes on equipment and settings used. More to come.

10 JAN 2006

Long neglected for other sites and projects, but coming back, now. A host of new and award-winning PHOTOS posted. More to come. And more changes to come, including some site redesign.

As of now, this is over 350 images, most of exceptional quality, as well. Click on - PHOTOS.

13 APR 2004

Continuing to update the links page, even as the graphics links pages continue to languish as incomplete. The selection of music might save people some time, whether hard rock, opera, celtic, doesn't matter. All the albums are exceptional.

25 MAR 2004

Updated various photos.

Added new photos to the flowers gallery. Also added just a few photos, for now, to some new sections.

18 MAR 2004

Updated various photos, with generally improved sharpening for web appearance.

Added new photos, originally taken back in 2003, to the Rodeo gallery.

16 DEC 2003

C|Net reported an IE browser bug, going back to version 5, where an unscrupulous website designer could provide a link that shows up intentionally wrong in the address bar. I believe this bug was first reported years ago, at least as far as the non-printing character oddness. But by just using a non-printing character, the "http://" protocol, and the at sign, @, everything following the at sign is read as the actual URL by the browser, but the previous text is the only thing shown in the address bar. A text link might show something odd in the status bar, assuming anyone stopped to look. But a button would not. So http://www.microsoft.com%01@www.therealaddress.com/gonnagetcha.htm would go to www.therealaddress.com, but would show only http://www.microsoft.com in the address bar. Click the example button, below, and see how persistent such a bug can be, as you click on various pages of this site.

1 DEC 2003

Added and updated photos in the Water gallery.

And, as always, constantly updating the General Links; added section on digicam/dSLR reviews.

14 NOV 2003

Completed the article on database lists, exploring the adjacency model used in the Access db which generated many of these pages, and mentioning some alternative methods as possibly a future improvement.

I also included a random selection of a logo and scene as the home page loads.

4 NOV 2003

Added photo section for the Grand National 2003, in SF.

24 OCT 2003

Completed update of site, adding section on programming, redoing image files and catalogs, and updating new photo images.

27 NOV 2002

Updated the Prints section with new photos, and added some to the Photos section, as well.

21 NOV 2002

Finally got the first version of the slide show on the main page. It will work in Internet Explorer 5 and 6. Hoping to get NN 7 compatibility.

Still working on the remote control for the photos, using Macromedia Flash. It will only be available for IE, however, since Netscape just does not allow for Flash communications or interaction.

10 SEP 2001

Background tile - Squares 4a
